Operation Organization

Seems like everyone I talk to this week has organization on their mind. Gotta get it together, gotta clear out the clutter, gotta streamline. Whatever the details, folks are feeling the need to pack away the holidays and make some big changes this year.

Well, you know this is a tune I like to sing. 'Cuz what's my favorite saying? "The root word of clutter is 'to clot' so clear your clutter!"

If you're ready for Operation Organization, here are some great online and storefront retailers of organization tools and paraphernalia, courtesy of Apartment Therapy.

  1. Muji (New York/Online): The Japanese retailer has a minimal, clean-lined inventory of organizational supplies. Think clear acrylic boxes, white bins, and notebooks covered in craft paper.
  2. The Container Store (Various Locations/Online): They have physical stores in only 16 states, but their online presence makes their vast range of organization and storage products available to everyone.
  3. Stacks and Stacks (Online): Stacks and Stacks is another popular giant in online shopping for storage and organization products. From under-sink organizers to a wide array of food containers they have all sorts of storage products to browse and buy.
  4. At Work Design (Chicago/Online): Designed to look like a streamlined workspace, the store is a great resource for modern furniture, shelving, and office solutions.
  5. See Jane Work (California/Online): It feels like a cross between a Kate Spade boutique, a Container Store, and one of those hole-in-the-wall Japanese paper shops. All of which, in our book, are excellent things.
  6. Russel and Hazel (Online): A tough davey-board exterior, colorful book-binding canvas, dry-erase interior, solid hardware and giant rubber bands all contribute to the allure of Russell and Hazel's binders and storage supplies.
  7. Office (Portland/Online): Office, a combination office-supply store and art gallery, is a favorite of ours. The store stocks supplies from the coolest companies around, including Russell+Hazel, Blu Dot and Pina Zangaro.
  8. KangaRoom (Online): KangaRoom Storage has plenty of clever products and has recently launched a line of storage accessories for kids and babies, aptly named Joey and Jane.
  9. SaveOnCrafts (Online): In addition to craft supplies, they carry photo storage boxes, bottles and jars, baskets, and paper organizers.
  10. IKEA (Various Locations/Online): The Swedish megastore carries popular and inexpensive organizational supplies like the Grundtal kitchen system, Ivar boxes, and Komplement drawer dividers.
